Linen Biennale Northern Ireland 2018
Re-call, Re-think, Re-form
Northern Ireland’s first Linen Biennale will celebrate the past, present and future landscape of linen through an extended innovative arts festival, presented and hosted by multiple partners in venues across Northern Ireland.
The Linen Biennale will stimulate new thinking about Ireland’s oldest textile products: flax and linen. The Linen Biennale forms a bridge to connect and reflect our internationally renowned linen through past, present and future themes. There will also be exciting showcase potential for art and design-led developments, such as flax composites for applications like furniture, bicycles, surfboards and musical instruments. The Biennale will run every two years launching in 2018 during August, September and October with subsequent programmes in 2020 and 2022.
The Linen Biennale provides opportunities for those working with creative industries, museums, galleries, councils, churches, community groups and educators to present their Linen archives, products or projects, on the key themes:
Re-Call: Linen heritage themed projects or exhibitions
Re-think: Educational projects or exhibitions with linen or flax theme
Re-form: Design led innovation with linen or flax products
Each successful submission will become part of the integral visitor experience programme both in print and online. Participating organisation will receive a Linen Biennale Logo and window decal and will be promoted locally, nationally and internationally, they will also receive one free admission to the international Linen Biennale conference 3rd and 4th October 2018 in Lisburn.
