The Monaghan Story of Linen – A display in the museum of flax and linen artefacts including tools and a sample of flax used in the linen making process and finished products.
An online exhibition of artefacts portraying the importance of the linen trade in County Monaghan and the linen making process.
This exhibition will also include the story of the involvement of the Leslie family of Glaslough with the linen heritage of the county.
Images will have information on the flax making process and how it was integral to the development of the county as we know it today.
The artefacts featured will include some of the following; a drag used for pulling drowned linen from a flax hole, linen stamp impressions, railway flags as used in local Great Northern Railway stations, a linen firescreen and an embroidered sampler, a Belbroid nightgown, items from a linen wedding trousseau & linen business documents.
