About
The Horner Collection at Belfast Central Library is representative of Horner’s main interest, namely textile manufacture. It comprises books and scrapbooks dealing with textile manufacture throughout the world.
John Horner (1858-1919) was born in Belfast. He was a member of the Belfast Natural History and Philosophical Society and acted as its Treasurer and Secretary.
He gained notoriety as the author of “The Linen Trade of Europe during the Spinning-Wheel Period”, (1920). The collection comprises books on textile manufacture from the 19th century.
There are also a number of scrapbooks which contain cuttings, advertisements and labels concerned with textiles. The collection also includes the journal “Repertory of Arts – 1794 to 1821”.
