The Mills of Northern Ireland Project records and preserves the history and memories of mills across Northern Ireland.
In 2014 after working many years as a tour guide at a beetling mill Sebastian Graham decided to look at an old map of his surrounding townlands and discovered that mills were once a prominent feature on our landscape.

He recorded the locations and listed the historic owners of the mills on an online mapping resource. So far he has mapped the location of over 3200 mills, visited over 100 and interviewed 10 former mill workers.

In 2017 Sebastian was awarded the public winner of the Heritage Angel Awards and is currently researching flax scutchers and their daily routines.

We are grateful to him for recording our milling history for
future generations. Visit his website for further information.
