Linen in Focus: European Heritage Open Days 2025

Carnegie Oldpark Library, Belfast

September 13th. 11am - 4pm, tours at 15 mins past the hour, each hour.

Discover the stories and treasures hidden within our beautiful building. Closed to the public since 2010, the library is now in the midst of an exciting regeneration project. Our vision: to transform it into a vibrant Centre for Weaving.

Your visit will consist of a guided tour where you will learn about the history of this building, hear about our future plans, and finish by weaving a bookmark of your very own to take home! We will be open from 11-4 with each tour starting 15 minutes past the hour.

R-Space Gallery, Lisburn

September 13th. 11am - 5pm, guided tour at 2pm

History author and guide John Bradbury will lead a tour of our listed building The Linen Rooms. Now home to R-Space Gallery, the property has witnessed over three hundred years of change, reflecting the social and political history that has profoundly shaped Lisburn. Discover who lived here and their connections to the city, as well as the events that influenced its past. Free and open to all – no booking required. Our current exhibition Singing Threads by Eimear Magee will also be open. Arrive early to enjoy it before the tour kicks off.

Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum

September 13th, various times 11am - 3pm.

EHOD 2025 Collections Tour: Behind the Scenes at the Museum. Join the curatorial staff for a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the museum and its artefact store. This guided experience offers a unique opportunity to explore:

  • The museum’s rich collection of linen damask

  • Local history objects

  • Precious artworks
